Ambassador-designate to Belgium, EU calls on President

ISLAMABAD, Nov 25 (APP): Ambassador-designate to Belgium and the European Union Jalil Abbas Jilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari here at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday.The President while congratulating the ambassador-designate on his new assignment advised him to work for further enhancing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Belgium.He said that Chambers of Commerce and businessmen of both the countries must be encouraged to meet and develop mutually beneficial interaction and explore real potential of trade between the two countries.


The President also advised the ambassador-designate to encourage Belgian companies to benefit from the investment friendly policies of the Government of Pakistan.

He advised the ambassador-designate to pro-actively engage with the Belgian government to further Pakistan’s interests in holding of second Pakistan-EU Summit in early 2010 as well as institutionalization of the summit process.

The President said that European Union and Pakistan are partners in the global campaign against terrorism and appreciated EU’s contribution towards economic development and its decision to raise level of regular economic assistance to Pakistan.

He said we need an increased access of Pakistani products into the EU markets and also advised the ambassador to further Pakistan’s case for market access.

The President advised the Ambassador designate to convey his felicitation to Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy on his appointment as President of European Union.
