ISLAMABAD, Nov 24 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday asked the Ambassador designate to Belgium and European Union Jalil Abbas Jilani to work towards further enhancement of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Belgium. The Prime Minister stated this as Jalil Abbas Jilani paid a farewell call on him at the PM House. The Prime Minister urged the envoy designate to seek the support of Belgium for strengthening ties with NATO, for early conclusion of Foreign Trade Agreement with European Union as well as getting EU’s GSP Plus facilities for Pakistan.
Underlining the importance of Belgium after its Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy’s selection last week as the first President of the European Council, the Prime Minister urged the Ambassador designate to seek EU’s enhanced political and economic support for Pakistan.
The Prime Minister further asked the Ambassador designate to focus his energies to further increase Pakistan’s exports to Belgium which happens to be the sixth largest buyer of Pakistani products in Europe.
The Ambassador designate thanked the Prime Minister for reposing his confidence on him for this assignment and assured him that his guidance will set his agenda of work as Ambassador to Belgium and European Union.
